BRITAX ANNOUNCES SAFETY RECALL ON THE CANADIAN ROUNDABOUT (MODEL NUMBER E9016 AND E9L16 MANUFACTURED BETWEEN JANUARY 1, 1999 AND DECEMBER 15, 2007).

CHARLOTTE, NC (February 2008) – Britax Child Safety, Inc. announced that it is conducting a safety recall on the Canadian Roundabout child restraints, beginning with model number E9016 and E9L16 and manufactured from January 1, 1999 through December 15, 2007. Britax has determined that these units are non-compliant to the fit requirements of the Motor Vehicle Restraint Systems and Booster Cushions Safety Regulations.

The affected Roundabout units recommend rear-facing usage for children whose weight is between birth and 13.6 kg (30 lbs) and whose height is between birth and 76 cm (30 inches). For infants in the lower range of weight and height, the lowest harness slots may not allow the infant to be snugly secured when the child seat is installed rear facing. In rear-facing installation, the harness straps must be located at the nearest slots at or below the child’s shoulders. Generally, infants seated rear facing with a weight below 2.3 kg (5 lbs) and a height below 55.9 cm (22 in) are affected resulting in harness straps being incorrectly positioned at or above the child’s shoulders.

To address this issue, Britax will send all registered owners of the Roundabout child seats manufactured from January 1, 1999 through December 15, 2007 a safety notification with updated product labels and User Guide inserts containing instructions and recommendations related to continued usage. The product labels and user guides have been revised to reflect fit recommendations and recommended rear-facing usage for children whose weight is between 2.3 and 13.6 kg (5 – 30 lbs) and height is between 55.9 - 76.2 cm (22 – 30 inches). However, if at any time the lower harness slots are not located at or below the infant's shoulders in the rear-facing installation, selection of a different child seat, such as an infant carrier, may be required.

All Canadian Roundabouts manufactured prior to December 15, 2007 are affected by this recall notice. All consumers are encouraged to register their product to receive a product update kit. To verify product registration, shipment status of repair kit, or to order a repair kit online, complete the information to left of this screen.

The location of the label is dependent on when the seat was manufactured. It could be located either on the child’s left-hand side or on the lower part of the seat where the child’s legs rest. You many need to lift the cover to see the label.
